De La Salle Christian Brothers

A retirement earned by a lifetime of service.

Now as a large number of Brothers are retiring, they are finding their living and healthcare needs ever-increasing. The De La Salle Christian Brothers have resolved to build an addition to their residence in Narragansett to create an additional retirement community for these men who have given so much.

The new addition will include a residential wing with living space for 12 Brothers. Each of the two floors will have common gathering spaces for the Brothers to meet and enhance their community life. A large public gathering area will serve the larger community.
The focus of the first floor will be a sweeping atrium with a 1,600 square foot gathering area. It will also include the Brothers' dining room and six bedroom suites of approximately 336 square feet. Each suite overlooks the courtyard.
A living room on the second floor overlooks the gathering area and provides access to an upper level roof terrace which overlooks the garden court. These living spaces are intended as private space, segregated from public circulation routes. There will be elevator access to the second floor living space, and six more bedroom suites.
The residential wing of the addition is located along the west edge of the present courtyard. It consists of a total of 12 suites on two floors. Each suite is approximately 336 square feet. This includes bedroom space, a sitting area, and a private handicapped accessible bathroom. Views from each suite are into the courtyard. Elevator access is provided to the second floor living space and six upper level suites.
The large public gathering area lies between the present residence and the dining area in the school section of the building. It comprises a double height space of approximately 1,600 square feet. It is intended as a formal receiving space and reception area. Its construction is primarily of glass with views to the Ocean Road frontage, stone side walls of the present residence, and a new garden court. Amenities include a large stone fireplace and direct access from the expanded dining area.
The two-story atrium walls will be primarily glass, with views to the Ocean Road frontage, existing stone walls, and a new garden court. A focal point of the atrium will be a beautiful stone fireplace, perfect for gatherings such as holiday receptions.
